Are you an explorer at heart?
Hidden Wonders is for you! Join
our Certified Environmental
Interpreter Tour Guide specialized
in El Yunque during our easiest
hike while learning about the flora
and fauna of our beloved Forest.
You should be fit to walk/stand for approximately 4 - 5 hours

Off-the-beaten-path guided hike at El Yunque National Forest.

The trail is known for its challenging, steep, muddy, and rocky terrain, but
it is also considered rewarding for nature lovers. This is a guided journey to
and through Silence with a few stops to learn the importance of this unique
watershed area. You will hike for approximately 4 - 5 hrs. through the
uphill and downhill parts of this trail (
you must be in shape!).

Bring your Yoga mat, backpack with snacks or lunch, and water. We will
have a 30 minute break when we reach Río Mameyes at the end of the
trail; you can meditate, read a book or just relax before going back to the
entrance of the trail. Ready to hug a tree?

injury, heart or respiratory illness, we don´t recommend this hike.
Lowlands & Edge of the Forest
The main purpose of the hikes in this section is to introduce you to
our rain forest in a different way, through natural history and historic
heritage.  You will be hiking some of the less crowded trails as you
walk through two zones of the Forest:  the riperian and secondary
forest systems while learning about the watersheds and the role of
agriculture and mining in this part of the Forest from mid 1800's to
1940´s.

These private activities are offered upon request in the lowlands of the
Forest, which allows us to start at 7:00 AM.

You should be fit to walk/stand for approximately 2 hours.

Located in la Sierra de Luquillo and with close to 29,000 acres of land,
El Yunque is one of the most important places in Puerto Rico due to its
biological diversity. Angelito Trail is a short trail, but full of history. It is a
mix of gold mines, coffee plantations, cattle, hurricanes, and conservation
efforts. But before the europeans arrived, our Ancestors were already here.

You will be walking through three forest zones along the trail: riparian,
secondary and tabonuco forests while seeing the Forest in a different way:
through the eyes of your local Guide, layer by layer: from the Forest floor to
the understory, the canopy and emergent layer. Who lives in each layer and
how they survive and adapt after hurricanes? Hummingbirds, millipides,
giant green anoles, coquis, shrimps, walking sticks, fungi, briophytes, just
to name a few.

Although this hike takes you to Poza Las Damas, swimming, river crossing
or stepping on rocks is not allowed.  You will meet Río Mameyes, and
learn the importance of water as a resource.
